  • Episode 76, Style Points

    Summary

Hello, and welcome to another episode of Scruffy City Sports. This week, I’ll recap the #Vols #Mizzou #CollegeFootball game from Saturday. Also, I get on my soapbox once again to talk about style points, and regardless of what the #Vols do, it will never be the right thing. Whether that is scoring too many points or not scoring enough points. Thank you, as always, for listening.  Until we meet again ilysm 🧡Norm — Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/scruffycitysports/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/scruffycitysports/support

  • Episode 75, Step back from that ledge…….

    Summary

In this episode, I am standing high on my soapbox, calling out all of those negaVol fans out in the dark corners of the interwebs. Tennesse has a lot, and I mean a lot, to be excited about this season. We have risen from the ashes and become a talking point again in college football. Do I need to remind you that a year and a half ago, Tennesee went 3-7? Put your orange britches on and keep cheering on the Vols.

    Love always and forever

  • Feels like ’98

    Feels like ’98

In 2005 Phillip Fulmer led the Tennessee Volunteers to an overall record of 5-6. He followed that up with a 9-4 season in 2006 and a 10-4 season in 2007. Before, he was ultimately let go in 2008 with a record of 5-7 again. The firing of ‘The Great Pumpkin’ in 2008 started the dumpster fire of UT football. Every UT football fan can remember the couches burning on campus when Lane Kiffin left to go to his ‘dream job’ at USC. ‘But what about the recruits, Lane?’ This fan will never forget that quote from Heather. Then the hiring of a 17-20 WAC coach in Derek Dooley. He only had ONE winning season at the time of his hiring at UT. His record for those uninitiated is 5-7 in 2007, 8-5 in 2008, and 4-8 in 2009. Dooley left Tennessee with unique press conferences, taught us how to shower properly, and brought orange britches back to style. He, however, did not leave Tennessee with a winning record. In his three seasons (2010-2012) over on ‘The Hill,’ he was 16-21 and never led the Vols to a winning season. Then we started laying bricks and laid them brick by brick with Butch Jones. I don’t have the wherewithal to deep dive into Butchy Boy, but his overall record with Tennessee was 34-29 with four winning seasons. The man wears lifts in his shoes. That is all you need to know about him. If you thought Butch was bad, and maybe this novel, I have started writing about Tennesee football and the fact that I have no idea where it is going currently. Then sit back down and grab a frosty cold beverage for the next bimbo, Jeremy Pruitt. What a waste of air space that clown was. I’ll give you the highlights from his tenure here at Tennessee. Mcdonald’s bags, I need time to get my players in here and the mask heard around the world. In his three short seasons here. Gump gave us the worst season in UT football history with a 3-7 season in 2020 and finished with an overall record of 16-21.

Since 2005, when I started this short story. Tennessee has had eight winning seasons of football. That breaks down as follows—one ten-win season under Fulmer. Three nine-win seasons (one with Fulmer, two with Jones.) One eight-win season under Pruitt and three seven-win seasons. With Kiffin, Jones, and last year under Heupel. For a quick comparison, UT football only had NINE-losing football seasons from 1950-2005. Let me say that one more time for those of you in the back of the room, from 1950 to 2005, FIFTY-FIVE years of football. TENNESSE HAD NINE LOSING SEASONS. NINE. Putting it as nicely as possible, Tennessee was the gold standard in college football. I was saying all that to say this. Tennessee football is back, baby.

In less than two years, Josh Heupel, the football Messiah that he is, brought this program back from the deeps of Hell. Tennesee had been in a state of purgatory for the better part of two decades. However, last night on ESPN, millions worldwide witnessed the rebirth of Tennesse football. Norm, how in the world do you know this? Well, do me a favor and when the sun comes up tomorrow morning, glance outside and see that glorious UT orange beaming down on you, and ask yourself when have you seen the sunshine Ohio State or even Ala*ma colors. I have said a lot of things. Most of which was me rambling on and on about who knows what. The tv guide version of it is this. Tennessee football was not ranking going into the 2022 season, and in eight short weeks, we are now number one. Long gone are the days of Butchy Boy, Jeremy Gump, and Dooley. I can not begin to explain how excited I am for all of the younger UT fans, not old enough to have witnessed or been a part of this before.

Joc Pederson said it best “We are those motherfu—–!”

Welcome back to the promised land, Tennessee fans.

Last but not least. I do a much better job recording and publishing a podcast than updating this website.

  • Episode 73, Vol-O-Ween

    Summary

The #Vols are still undefeated. If you are counting at home, that is 8-0 record. I tell you all about the #Vols #Kensucky game, then share my feelings on those mouth breathers to the north of us. Give a lot of RESPECT  to the players that stayed at #Tennessee when it was a dumpster fire. I’ll tell you why I think #WillLevis is the number one overall draft pick.

Thank you for listening to the podcast. You could have been doing a million other things, but you chose to listen to me, which means the world to me.
